Cypritree - October 2024 Newsletter

Happy Pumpkin Month. πŸŽƒ This month's newsletter shall be Bloodborne focused, as a little return to Yharnam tribute. Bloodborne was my first FromSoft game, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. There's no better time than the spooky season to give appreciation, so I've gathered below some of my Bloodborne artwork and designs to capture the Halloween spirit.

Feature:

This piece I did of Eileen the Crow in 2015 was well-received, but I've remade it because I was curious to see how it would look in my current style. My older prints from that era of Doll & Lady Maria were rendered digital paintings. The current Eileen is still digitally created, but borrows the aesthetics and approach of traditional ink and sketch. It has gotten renewed interest in the community and I'm the most pleased with how the foiling turned out.

For those interested, Eileen comes in both Print and Poster sizes in the store, and I have a little reel of me packing it below so you can better see the foiling:

Also curious; for those of you who are long time followers, are there any other older pieces you'd want to see in my current style?

I also designed a Lamp and Messenger pin set and added it to my Bloodborne pin collection. The Alfred pin from the collection has been retired to make space and there's just a few left in stock, so if you want to complete the original set this is your last chance to do so!

From the Archive:

That was me participating in Inktober from the good ol' tumblr days. I want to share it because 2016 doesn't seem so long ago in my memories - but that was 8 years ago and this game is still being enjoyed today. (A loyalty stronger than the presence of social media platforms.) Nice to see the changes in my art also and how satisfying it feels to be able to do more justice to the things I like :) One of my friends actually got a tattoo of this piece so it's immortalized in the flesh.

Artist Life:

I took a little breather in the beginning of October after a heavy season of summer cons. I always appreciate the support of y'all in person but having some time to rest and reset is quite precious. I ended up going to a cottage just a bit north of where I'm from, to chill with friends for a few days. It marked the change of the season both in weather and the general pace of life. Going into the colder months, I tend to want to hermit, but this retreating in actually makes me more creative. I feel hopeful that I will finally get a chance to polish up ideas that have been simmering all Summer in the upcoming months.

Even though I've been talking up Bloodborne in this newsletter, I would say there's actually another game I've been playing on the daily. I've been having a lot of fun with it and have chatted extensively about it to my friends, so IYKYK - well, I might reveal it in another newsletter, if I end up making art for it, that is.

Until then, stay safe & stay warm,

Bo🌿

Hi everyone! It's been a HOT summer and I'm trying to take advantage of as much outdoor time as possible. I've been undertaking a series of drawings on my back porch that's a bit of a departure from my usual dark fantasy/creature work. If you're on my discord, it should come as no surprise to you that all my gushing about the fine specimens from the gatcha game Love and Deepspace has finally forced my drawing hand. Yes, these 2D(3D?) men has me by the collar...🌢️ My creative process is a long...

Happy July, everyone. The grind is real before Anime Expo... which falls on July 3-6 this year. It's the biggest con of the year, so I always try to prepare as much as possible for it. I'm going to tease all the new items I have in this newsletter :) If you're going, come by to say hi and get a free Kiyo sticker! There's a lot happening recently, I am wishing all of you to stay safe and sound. Travel is part of my job but sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming. I remind myself that it's worth...

Hi newsletter friends! May was a pretty turbulent month for me, with some personal stuff happening and a reoccurring wrist injury that set me back a lot that I'm still dealing with. Really makes you realize to not take things you have for granted! On the positive side I've been productive artistically, completing some new Monster Hunter pins and exploring some new styles in my work. I was part of the may anime themed rotation at Mr. Surprise The Well, which I teased last time and now I'll...
